“Does this s ystem have to sit on top of the television and plug into the back of the tv with wires? I thought it was wireless.”

This speaker is wireless but it works with only things that are bluetooth like a phone or a tablet and if you tv is compatible with bluetooth you can do it

To enable Bluetooth, you need to unplug the wired connection from the speakers, and likely the TV too. You can't get the blue flashing Bluetooth connection light on the speakers if the 3.5mm audio cord is plugged into the speakers.
