The interior light turns off when the door is closed, i suppose you could tape the push button switch at the top right to keep it off if you'd prefer. As for the outer panel, there is a single led light on the display, which shows if the unit is in freezer/ refrigerator mode. all other lights are off unless you press buttons to adjust temp. There is a lock feature on the panel, so before making any adjustments, you must hold a button for 3 seconds
