When I got mine, I let it stand upright for a full 24 hours before applying power. This is recommended for any new refrigeration appliance, to allow all of the internal refrigerant and oil to drain down, in case the unit was tipped over in shipping. Mine works perfectly. If yours isn't getting cold at all, then I would say that it might be defective.
