• I bought a different portable, but they are all the same in this respect. I left the screen on and have no problems with air volume. Works great.

• I let the screen in, I only put the exhaust in the windo put the window down on it and it works great. The screen stays the place where it was.

• I kept the screen on to limit the bugs from getting in. Also, it may depend on how the depth of your windows are. Mine has been working amazingly and I left the screen on. I hope that helps!
