It depends IF you have wifi service with your internet provider then no ethernet needed just connect to network. IF no wifi with provider OR you dont have your own router providing wifi then ethernet would be required for tv. If you look at bottom right corner of windows computer or top right corner of mac and see a tiny computer screen with a TINY plug that is ethernet connection to internet. If you look at the same area and see a radio wave symbol then it is a wifi connection. IF you need to add wifi service you can either purchase your own router OR call internet provider and ask them to add the service to your package. USUALLY only 5.99-7.99 extra a month.
