“How good is the headphone jack on this? I have an older Insignia that has good quality sound through headphones but many newer TVs don't seem to do so well, and I primarily watch TV with headphones.”

The sound via headphones seems OK to me. However, I am using a $20 headphone set, so I'm not really expecting great sound, The location of the headphone jack may be a problem for you. The jack is on the rear of the set next to the composite audio/video input jacks. It is in the middle about 5 inches up from the bottom. Take a good look at the rear view photo of the TV on the BestBuy website to locate the jack. I expect you would want to leave the headphones plugged in all the time, as you need rear access to plug in the headphone cable. My headphone cord is too short to reach the jack and puts me within about 3 feet of the TV. To use headphones with this TV, I need an extender cord.
