All brands should work. I used Rayovac and it worked, one of your Rayovac’s may have been dead.

Please try again later.I use Panasonic batteries (they offer a variety of different types and the suggested type for different kinds of devices are listed on the package) which have always worked well for me in every device I have used them with. I haven't tried them yet in this flashlight but would recommend them to try as replacements. Hope this helps.
