It does. As far as I know all real room air conditioners do. An evaporative air cooling unit does not require an exhaust hose but that type of unit does not work as well as a dehumidifying unit. They use cold water, ice, or frozen packs to cool the air, hence adding humidity rather than lowering. The unit I got from Best Buy works well, is pretty quiet, and did come with a few different configurations to connect the exhaust to a nearby window. It was simple to install. I hope that helps.
