From what the instructions read, the drain for the AC mode is to remain plugged in until the internal tray is full. Once full the unit will beep to indicate that the tray is full and you then will drain it. The drain is at the bottom of the unit on the back side so that may be difficult with the unit being heavy. Please make sure the plug is secure so that water with not leak on the floor like my unit did. I did not see or may have missed that part in the initial setup.
