Hi KP: Tap Cold is as it comes directly from the water tap. That would be the most energy efficient. Cold, Echo Warm and Warm are mixtures between the Cold and Hot taps. Hot is as it comes from the Hot Tap. Charles V. - Insignia Support https://www.insigniaproducts.com/contact-us
