• Peripheral input is standard usb a. Output to source is micro usb available at any gas station

• Input to hub from pc is micro USB. If extending I recommend a male/female USB extension along with the provided USB/micro USB cable

• Can you be more specific? What 12" connection cable are you talking about? Who made it? From the sound of your question I'm guessing you purchased the wrong size cable.
