Yes, this will work with either vertical or horizontal window configuration. The exhaust discharge tube is easily installed in the window with the hardware. Much like one of those window fans with the expandable 'accordion' things, the plastic hardware fits in the window easily, can expand to accommodate a large number of windows, and comes with a screw to hold the exhaust tube in place, at the desired length.

If the hose comes with a rectangular plastic piece that's about 12" long and 6" wide, but your window is 24" high, You'd need to block the remaining 12" above the flat plastic piece. I've done it with cardboard and foam insulation glued to it. By the way, I guessed those dimensions. I'm not sure how long it actually is.
