This is only hearsay, but others have said that Mac negotiates with the power source to take what it needs - this the fear that not all 3rd party devices will work at all (lacking the circuitry). But I would ask at the apple store - NOT the sales ppl, they don't know. I've been round and round on that ride before! Make an appointment with a genius. HOWEVER, I use this on my 2015 macbook air which specifically calls for 45W. I also use it on my 4th gen ipad air, which calls for 20W. So, maybe over time I will do damage that I haven't seen yet? Works so far.
