• yeah any tv will work for that... its the signal that would be the issue if you're having trouble with the coax cable it might just be a bad wire

• We have satellite tv which is delivered into house by coax cable. Everything is fine unless it snows hard and sat dish looses signal. Do not know if it is comparable to your setup at college but if they have satellite it is likely similar.
