- Answer This charging station does need to be plugged in while in use. & specifically my charging station has never caught fire.

QuestionI'm thinking of using this for my car so any type of phone can charge since I only have Android cable. Would this be possible as a wireless pad in my car and save the $300 bucks by not having the dealer install one?

- Answer As long as you have a space for it to lay flat and your phone to lay flat on it. I have a Nissan Frontier and use this daily to keep my Iphone charged; works great!
