This is about a 3 gallon bucket type basket. The shredder actually sits on top in a slotted holder. To empty you unplug the unit and detach it from the basket easily in a upward motion. I usually place a shopping bag over it and dump it.

IMO, a cross-cut shredder, with its own container, is the best way to go. Of course, I got this one at a ridiculously low price... so there is some trade-off.
