In transport is it safe to lay the unit on its back? null

No, it is recommended to transport the unit upright.

I did. And it's been working fine for the month we've had it. Just make sure you give it time to readjust. I left it standing upright for 24 hours (says so in the instructions) before I plugged it in.

No like all freezers and refrigerators it needs to transported upright to avoid damaging compressor and have coolant run backwards in the lines.
