I bought this freezer over the weekend and all is well, EXCEPT….when the lid is opened and closed it appears to “lock” or freeze closed. If we wait 30 minutes or so, the lid will then open normally. Why? null

This could be caused by warm air getting into the freezer when you close it the air cools and contracts creating a vacuum making it difficult to open the freezer. Slowly air will leak in eventually equalizing pressure.
