Maybe twice a year, take out the food and put it into a cooler. Unplug the freezer. Put a pan of boiling water on the bottom, close the door for around 30 minutes to loosen the ice, then open the freezer and most of the ice should be loose enough to wipe it out. Put some old towels on the floor around the front of the freezer to soak up the melted ice DO NOT PICK AT THE ICE WITH ANY SHARP KNIFE OR TOOL TO LOOSEN IT UP. Years ago, I did that once and it punctured the wall of the freezer and it was beyond repair. Just wait for the hot water to melt it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.easiest way. Put food in a cooler. Get a pail or pan of some kind, put in front of freezer. Get a towel-put half of the towel in freezer & the other end in the pail. Leave door open. When it melts-the water will automatically drain into the pail via the towel. works every time.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you want "frost free" plug it into an external timer that is set to turn appliance off for 30 minutes every night about 1 am. The solidly frozen food will stay frozen while the frost will not have a chance to build up.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just defrosted mine for the first time since buying over two years ago. I keep mine in the garage. I just unplugged it, left the door open and 2-3 hours later was able to get the frost off the sides by carefully using a putty scraper. Just be careful with the glass shelves.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Super easy if you keep up with it - defrost say 2x a year. I just move the food in it to my main freezer or a cooler, unplug the Insignia, put a folded bath towel in the bottom, leave the door to the freezer open and a few hours later come back and it's all melted off and contained in the bath towel. Wipe the excess water off the inside walls and shelves, plug back in, and in just a couple hours it is down to 0 degrees or below again. I imagine if you let it go to long between defrosting it could be more of a hassle.
