If I understand your question, then, there is no small port for plugging your devices into it. The smaller USB socket is used to plug the device that you wish to extend it's USB ports such as a PC or a Mac.

I have used this cable with a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and Black, as well as a Hero 5 Black. You need to go into preferences and make sure you have HDMI settings on Media.
