Can be plugged to your lap top and will charge.

Correct sir just remember that if you have a hard drive plugged into it that it will lower voltage to save power on the USB connector.

One end of the cord is a standard USB port so if you have a USB slot on your laptop you’re good. To plug into a wall outlet you will also need the charging ‘cube’. Some surge protector bars have USB slots on them that you can plug this into as well.
