“Would using this cord void my Apple Care warranty if something happens to the phone? I have been told that using non apple chargers can cause problems with warranty”

I think most problems with non apple chargers are with the plug in module and not with the cable. Since I had an extra charging module made by Apple I didn't worry about that issue.

I don't foresee this cable affecting your Apple Care warranty but I would strongly recommend speaking with an Apple Care representative to verify this information.

No, Apple cannot legally void a warranty by not using accessories exclusive to Apple. This cord is just as good if not better than apples original.
