Make sure you took off the needle guard. If you did that, you may need to adjust the tracking force on the other end of the arm so that it presses down more onto the record. Do it just enough so that it plays the record and maybe a little more so it doesn't skip but do NOT just turn it to apply max pressure because that can damage the records when it plays. If you are unsure of how any of that works, I suggest you look up a Youtube review of this turntable, the first result should show you how to adjust it (Note, you don't NEED a scale, just keep slowly adjusting it)
