My guess is that it got damaged somehow when you dropped it or it could have been damaged in transit. It looks to me that something is wrong with the internal power connections as you described that the light flashes red and green when you turn it on. On my converter box (I have the exact same box) the power light is a steady red when powered off and a steady green when its on. I would recommend doing an exchange. This converter box is the best I've had so far and the reception it gets is fantastic.. I had different box prior and the quality was not nearly as good.
