Yes, especially with heavier TVs, get a stud finder and double check your spotting. I predrilled with a small bit to prevent splitting the stud and could almost hang off of it

Yes... for the size of the TVs this can mount, make sure you can find at least 2 studs you can mount it on. You don't want that expensive of a TV to fall off your wall!
