“evaluate audio of Insignia Flex 10.1 I have severe hearing loss and have difficulty adjusting audio volume for my needs. what is the quality and range of sound on this device for audio books and music? any hearing impaired folks able to comment or recommend other options? any help appreciated”

This tablet seems to have enough volume for the average user. However the speakers are mounted on the rear of the case so in the case of someone who is hearing impaired I would highly recommend purchasing other Bluetooth headphones or headphones with a micro plug as there is a headphone jack available. The Google Play Store also has applications that enable you to adjust an equalizer to maximize high and low sounds to enable you to hear music and text better. The artificial intelligence voice that reads text to voice is ok but it does read a little fast especially on Google Play Books. But when you are listening to text to voice in a Google Play Book it highlights the area that's being read so you can actually read along while you listen. I hope this information is helpful.
