This is the opposite. HDMI OUT To RCA in Old NES games attached to the RCA inputs on the old tvs.... (unless your NES has an hdmi out). If your new smart tv does not have RCA inputs, this will not do the trick. I have not tested on streaming attachments to tvs. My assumption would be that if your HDMI input no longer works, you could theoretically connect your item, via an HDMI cable to this converter and then send a lower quality version to the TV via the RCA cables and inputs. If you have ever watched a DVD on a good TV with the RCA cables, then watched that same DVD on the same TV, but then used the HDMI cable, you will see and hear an improvement to what you first experienced. This would most likely but be the case. I have personally tried connecting this from a laptop, Blu-ray player, and digital camcorder, all with the HDMI out to an older monitor, mid level TV, large projection TV, and DVD burner via the RCA in (4 different devices ). Everything played, but quality suffered a bit. In my opinion, it’s a good technology to have if there is no other option. Great for allowing those with low tech to at least see things you have on hi tech devices - not other way around. I have not been able to have my RCA devices play into my HDMI devices. This is a one way converter.
