• My problem was the opposite, I have a new DVD with HDMI that had to be connected to an old giant JVC tube television with RCA connectors ( this 39 inch TV will out live me.) The converter worked perfectly. It's very important to know which way the signal is going - HDMI to RCA or RCA to HDMI - and buy the corresponding system. Check it out on Google.

• yes but you must have a source. I used the HDMI output on my cable box. My LG tv did not have any audio outputs
