• I needed no power cord to make this work. I love this adapter it just works. It can only hook up to and HDMI output to a VGA input though not the other way around.

• you should only need the power cord for your computer, or if it will run off of battery. As long as you are going from VGA on your computer, this should work to the HDMI to your TV.
