I drove over to Best Buy in a panic, because the adapter I had been using to connect my 3rd monitor caused my brand new Windows 10 computer to crash every time I tried to load the driver. Not the fault of the device, but the OS. Thankfully they had one of these in stock, so I grabbed it and went back home to try and get my computer and 3 monitors up and running for work the next day. Basically it was plug and play. I plugged it into the HDMI out and into the VGA cable, connected my monitor, and I was up and running. All I had to do was adjust the three monitors so they were in the right order. I love how easy it is to use this product. It automatically downloaded the driver and I was set. The image on my monitor is great, no lag, nothing funky, just a clear picture. I was able to get back to work the next day with no further issues between the adapter, its drivers, and Windows 10. Thanks a lot, Best Buy, for selling such a good adapter and having it in stock. As the title says, you really saved my bacon!

I bought this to try using an older flat panel VGA monitor with a Raspberry PI. Seemed like it shouldn't be too hard. No instructions came with it, and no indication of what VGA display modes are supported. The monitor just said it couldn't support whatever signal this adapter was supplying. There was the surprise of noticing that there was a USB power input and no power adapter was included. Seems some HDMI devices can power it, but some can't. I finally got it to work when I connected this to my Roku box WITH a power adapter and to a TV with a VGA input. Strangely, the same TV could not display anything except "unsupported video mode" when I plugged it into my UVerse box, even with the power adapter. Might help if the box gave some indication of what VGA display modes it does support, and how they change since apparently it changes depending on the HDMI signal.

I have an older InFocus LCD Projector and, while it is no longer new, it *was* top-of-the-line in its day and is still super portable. It produces a lot of color and punch when used with my older laptops, but I was really hoping to use it with my newer ones, but they don’t have VGA ports. Enter HDMI to VGA adapter! Plug and play, just like before. No screws to “lock in” the connector to the VGA cable on the projector, but that’s ok. I got some electrical tape and secured everything well. Works great, no issues with signal or connection.

I purchased this to connect to a Mac Book Pro, because it uses an HDMI connection, in order to use a small projector. The packaging does not indicate that it also needed an additional USB connector, which uses a mini connector that plugs into it, that I discovered by accident on the back of the device and just happened to already have, in order to power the device. After the device froze my computer, which I had to call Apple to fix, I was able to use the projector. The package should include the added connector needed to power the device and detailed information on using it correctly, so as not to create computer issues. For those reasons I only rate this (3) stars, but still recommend it with added info on how to use it.

I needed to give a PowerPoint presentation And I have an older projector That Only has the old style 13 pin Connector cable So I could not Hook it up to my laptop because the laptop doesn't have 13 pin output, it only has USB And an HDMI output. I went to a store and they sold me a cable that had the right adapter EndsTo connect the older VGA projector to The newer laptop, but it was just a cable and therefore it had no electronics so it was useless and failed to work. I went to BestBuy and talked to The salesman who showed me a number of Converters And he recommended This oneBased on its low price and he assured me it would work.Which it did, I'm very happy Now

Got my son a desktop computer for Christmas. I was more worried about getting a good modem, he's into beginners programming, than an expensive monitor. Get a monitor on sale, get the perfect modem, get home, and the connections aren't compatible. *Yes, I asked the employee, and yes he said they would work perfectly. I go back, and the cheapest monitor with the right connections is over $100 more than the original. Find this little life/wallet saver, and I get everything working smoothly for Christmas! Definitely worth the buy if you're wanting to save some money, or you're updating your modem but your monitor is still in good shape.

This adapter works and is well constructed, but the output quality when using this adapter is extremely poor. My screen which looks completely normal without this adapter looks extremely blurry with this adapter. The adapter also required an external power source which wasn't. If the screen quality wasn't an issue, then the external power requirement wouldn't have been a deal breaker. Overall I would not and couldn't use this adapter. It especially shouldn't be used if you require absolute perfect video quality.

Adapter works but took a lot of troubleshooting and reading reviews. I thought my problem was needing external power, which is not mentioned as a possibility on the packaging, but the device has a micro usb port. When that didn't work (monitor was saying "no signal", I discovered that the 2 HDMI ports on my computer were NOT the same. One is "input" the other is "output". Plugging into "output" is when my computer detected the monitor I was connecting. Wanted to post this in case someone else is having the same problem, as I didn't see that here. I would have given 5 stars if there were instructions or suggestions with the product.

Worked perfectly when connected to a micro form factor PC with only HDMI to get a signal out to an older VGA monitor. We ran into problems when connecting another machine to a Linkskey KVM with the video signal constantly wanting to adjust resolution and flickering in and out, that made it unusable, where another HDMI to VGA adapter from another manufacturer work fine. For it's basic intended purpose though, it works great. Price is steep for what it is compared to other places online but it's great to have it available off the shelf at a local bestbuy.

Did not work with Raspberry Pi 3B

Purchased for a Raspberry Pi 3B. Screen displayed at power on (i.e., Rainbow Screen) but then went to sleep when main boot process started. Tried an auxiliary USB cable (why is this NOT included at this price?!?! - another reason for a low rating) for power using a port on the Pi and then with a 5V A/C adapter but neither resulted in a picture. Using a non-powered ONN adapter (almost 1/2 the price) at this time... it also has some issues but at least there is a picture.

This is exactly what I needed to get my new laptop to work with my old projector. My laptop has an hdmi output, but my projector only has a vga input. It worked out and there were no issues with the functionality. I did not try to use sound through the hdmi, so I can't say if sound can be transferred through the usb/power port on the adapter. I can't figure out why sometimes the adapter needed to be plugged in with the usb power cable and sometimes it didn't. It worked for what I needed it to do, so I am very happy with the product.

I purchased this not knowing much about it or its competitors. However, this one cost about $20 less than the others and that's all I could afford. I took a chance to save some money and I'm glad I did! The Insignia works just as good if not better than the more pricey versions! My colleagues have more expensive versions that they always seem to have issues with, but so far this one hasn't failed me. Don't pay more, this one's great! In the spirit of fairness, the one con I found about it is there are no screw sockets to hold it in place to the VGA cord. But, it fits nice and snug anyway!

Bought to hook my VGA monitor to my laptop. Plug N Play works perfectly. It can be used as a duel-screen solution, which I do sometimes. But my primary purpose was for playing older video games. I can often get these games to run on my Win 8.1 laptop but the max resolution on these games is too low to fill the screen of my laptop (games appear as a tiny square in the middle of the laptop monitor - old games like Diablo or Steel Panthers). This product allowed me to cast the video onto a monitor which I could set to a lower resolution to fit the games. Great solution for me!

I had purchased 3 new video graphics cards for my 6 monitor setup (currency trader and needed to get back up and running) and these graphic cards allowed for HDMI + DL-DVI-D + D-Sub connections. I went to Micro Center for the DVI-D adapters, but they only had one. Best Buy was all out of the DVI-D adapters as well; but I knew I could connect using HDMI, so I purchased these hoping they would do the trick and they did. So far they are working perfectly. I don't mind the extra cord length because they are in the back of the computer and are not visible.

    Worked well at 1080p

Worked well to convert HDMI to VGA at 1080p. I wish it had 2 things 1. an audio output since its coming from HDMI 2. screws to connect to the VGA Cable - Note that this adapter does not have any screws to hold on to VGA cable. In my case, since the laptop was on a podium, and the VGA cable was hanging, it came off a couple of times during presentation which was not acceptable. I am sure in majority of cases that would not be an issue which is why I would recommend it. However I need to return my adapter and look for one with screws Unfortunatelu

This works very well... I use it with a Macbook Pro. I was confused at first when it didn't work. I spent quite a bit of time trying everything I could. Eventually I noticed a micro USB port labeled "Power". There was nothing about this on the box or the "documentation", if you can call it that. Once I gave it USB power the adapter worked like a champ. There must be some sort of Conversion chip in the adapter that needed additional power to convert from HDMI to VGA. I would recommend this product, just make sure you have a Micor-USB cable for it too!

Bought this adapter so my new tablet would work with existing projector systems for a Conference presentation. It worked well when I practiced on a local College Campus, but when the moment came @ a major hotel, it came in and out. Several times during my 60 min PP the projector slipped out of Slide Show mode. I had to excuse myself to my audience for the technical difficulties, and adjust the cable and manually put program back in Slide Show mode. But don't know anything else to do, and this $25 cable saved me from buying a new $700 laptop!

    Doesn't work on Sony

Similar to another reviewer, I plugged this into my Sony 32" Smart TV and it didn't work. It also comes with an insert to draw power from elsewhere if not directly from your TV or monitor. That plugin is the same one would use with a Nokia or Android smartphone. I plugged power cable into the TV's USB, my laptop's USB and then an outlet and it still never worked. Other, similar products have excellent reviews, not sure where they missed the boat here... Fortunately one of those other products: the displayport to HDMI has great reviews so I'll give that a try.

Connections fall out - buy other brand

Do NOT buy this item - buy the j5 connect version ($10 more). There are no threaded inserts (holes) in the VGA end of this adapter, so the VGA cable you plug into the adapter vibrates slightly and the connections become noisy (intermittent) then the picture on the VGA screen becomes filled with lines. The i5 Connect brand HMDI to VGA adapter sold by Best Buy has threaded inserts in the VGA connector end - so the VGA cable can be tightened securely to the adapter.

A quick fix to an old VGA flat screen monitor and HDMI Raspberry pi computer. Instead of spend a ton of money to replace the monitor, this adapter hooks HDMI to his computer giving extended life to the obsolete device. Hooks up easily and the screen is clean and clear (obviously an older monitor is NOT 4k or HD) but doesn't show issues with the down conversion. Excellent product for the cost!
