• Does your Lenovo have a HDMI output? Do you need to connect an older monitor with only a vga input? If your answer is no to either of these then this adapter won't help you.

• Probably not. You only need it if your computer has an HDMI output (no VGA), and you want to hook up a second screen that is fairly old and only has a VGA plug. If you buy a new screen, or you're not hooking up a second screen at all, then you don't need it.
