• I don’t have a wood finish dining room table. But I would think it would be safe. It is quite Large though. It has a little fullness to it but it’s not too thick. I think it would be great for a race track depending on the size of it.

• You could. The surface of the mat isn’t rough however because it’s thick, it’s also fairly rigid so it won’t drape over the sides of your table.
