“Would these allow me to hear the TV when there are other noises going on in the room or outside? Want to be able to hear over kitchen noises, conversations in the room, construction noises outside. If these do not work for that, suggestions? (Simple - I am 76 and most definitely not a techie.)”

They will work great for you in all noise conditions. They block outside noise well and have great volume. Also very easy to hook up. If you have a DVR They hook to that if not then the TV.

The sound can be so loud that you could hurt your eardrum, but you can turn it soft enough to be safe. It is like having surround sound :)
