But when I view a DVD I still hear the TV, not the movie. only using the long cable from the direct TV box to the headphone docking station. have tried all configurations I can think of to connect to the DVD player, I still hear only the TV audio. How should I connect for movie viewing as well as TV?”

Same problem. I purchased a pair of rca splitters and hooked them to the base station and then ran rca plugs from the cable box and another set from the dvd player. You just have to make sure the cable box is turned off when listening to dvd and that the dvd is turned off when listening to cable.
