MP3 CDs are just data discs with files on them. CDs are a copy protected format that are filled with specific data in a certain format (like DVDs and Blu-ray's). The skip protection likely is determined by the disc type being read, how healthy the disc is (an immaculate one versus a scratched up one), so on.

Please try again later.my opinion would be that if the buffers aren't working and the CD is in danger of being rendered useless, the device will suspend playing the CD for a period of either 248 or 45 seconds in the hope that the buffers would kick back in and the CD can be put back into play.
