“It doesn't appear to have a feature to turn on close captions. Am I missing it? (I hope so, as otherwise this looks like it has all the functionality I need although I wish it had a decimal place key so I can type in 55.1, 64.6 etc)”

closed captions are to my knowledge usually controlled by the setting on the tv set, not the remote.
