“Hello - I am trying to use these headphones with my Vizio t.v. using the digital optical cable connection and I am only getting feedback on the headphones and it is causing my t.v. to go blank or freeze up. What am I doing wrong?”

Mel; Maybe you have did this already. Take another look at the back of your TV to see if you can plug in your connections in another area.
