The buzzing sound people mention is more likely to be caused by interference from something like a phone or a clock radio near the base unit or the headphones, not by the way the base is connected to the TV. If your TV doesn't have the red and white RCA output jacks, or a headphone jack, your only option is the digital audio cable.
