• It comes with 2 battery packs that are used as batteries to power your xbox controller. It's a better replacement for discardable AA batteries. AND it comes with its own charging station that attaches to the xbox on the side.

• You are charging the battery pack to power the controllers, since most Xbox controllers don't come with a built in battery. The charger plugs into the USB port on your Xbox and the batteries slide right into the charger.
