“The sound on my Samsung Smart TV keeps going in and out. I'm sure there's something wrong with the TV. If I get a soundbar will that bypass the TV speakers so that the sound is on even if the TV sound fluctuates?”

Check in your sound settings mine had the same issue it is an equalizer that will cut sound to preserve speakers
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My first HDTV is a Sanyo 26" that I purchased around 2008 that I now suspect that the speakers are subject to wearing out and/or breaking down soon. To mitigate or avert my dependency on the speakers built into the HDTV, I initially purchased an Insignia 37" soundbar w/sub-woofer that had all cables packed and included in the box except for a digital optical cable which this model did not have a digital output port anyway. Therefore, I connected the Sanyo HDTV directly to the soundbar w/the 10 pin composite cable and it works perfectly. Do not confuse the two, but the sound quality is comparable to the digital optical cable that is used on the other 31.5" Insignia sound bar that serves another more updated HDTV, but more importantly the useful life of the near 10 year old Sanyo 26" with the first soundbar w/sub-woofer has been extended indefinitely without the worry of when its built-in speakers will wear out as I have turned them off while using the soundbar outside on the porch. Great for listening to morning news while having coffee after awakening. Maybe that will help you out. In my case, it was unique that I was able to compare the values of performance each sound bar with one utilizing a 10-pin composite cable and the other utilizing a digital optical cable, but both being connected directly to the HDTV and not the satellite receiver which should zero in on solving your question.
