“my tv was given to me by my daughter. We don't want to mount it on the wall so we are looking for a stand for it. The back of the tv has 2 horizontal bars on it that have "hooks" on it. What kind of a stand do I need?”

I use the 'Insignia - TV Stand for Most Flat-Panel TVs..." for my 50" Insignia TV. The instructions and kit that comes with that stand provides options for mounting other TVs other than Insignia, for example, if you have ports coming out the back of the TV instead of the side. It attached easily and is nicely multi-height. Solid base and brackets (not flimsy) and the instructions are well-written.
