I had a difficult time setting up the speakers and finally got them working using an optical cable through my sound bar. Could never get them working with an HDMI ARC cable. Not sure why you are having intermittent sound. If you can, I would recommend returning the speakers if able and getting a different brand that work. I have found that even with them working, they are not the best. Good luck.
