“Is there any static when you listen to them at high volume”

• No. I was amazed with the sound quality forbadncheap as they are it's a great product. I use it to stream Netflix off of my laptop and have a louder setup.

• at very high volume, a slight "distortion" but only when at the upper most volume

• Yes. Mid and low they're fine but have a hard time with the higher volumes. Perfect for quite music at your desk at work.
