• The USB is an A plug. I don't think the Surface has a standard USB connection.

• If you have a USB port it should work. Downloaded setup from internet.

• If you are hoping to upgrade to a Surface Pro 3 or 4 then I would suggest this item because it will kill your perfectly-working device. Do not buy this adapter.
