• Yes that is exactly what I purchased this for. I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro with the USB-C port that requires an adapter like this to hook up with "older" USB versions

• Yes, you can connect a USB with your MAC. If you think you're going to need more than one port you'll have to buy either an additional or a different device. I still prefer a mouse so I wanted more than one USB port. I bought another device made by Targus that has four ports on it. It also has an adapter that plugs in to electricity if you need more boost. So far I haven't needed that boost. The only thing I don't like about this setup is that I have this long cord with a device attached to my laptop. Hope this helps.
