• Plug it into a port. I had to plug mine in and it works.

• I just pulled my USB connection from the adapter out and the screen stayed on.

• Yes, the adapter needs a USB connection to work. It can be from any source: the TV, itself; a nearby computer, or a stand-alone plugin adapter.
