“We have tried to play music. It tells us we must be hooked up to a program. We have hooked up to Pandora and spotify and still no luck. Please advise as my husband says it's junk and wants Alexa instead.”

Do you have a google account? You will need one. You will need to download and install Google Home app on either an iPad, iPhone, or android phone. I assume you must have done all this to setup the basic device (if not do that first). In the Home App touch the three bars on the upper left hand corner. Then touch on music. Now select a music service. For spotify you will need to click on the link icon next to spotify and link your account by entering your spotify ID/Password. As for Pandora, I'm not sure it works with it.
