I bought these this weekend, worked right out of the box. Listened at work, took home to charge that night and left it on the charger for about 4 hours. Put them on this morning, and it says low battery. Do they have to be on when charging or off? null

turn off unless u previously been overcharging each night then it doesnt hold a long charge eventually.

Mine didn't need to be turned on. Just got to make sure the status indicator is red when you charge it up. It disappears (red light) upon completion of charging.

They would have to be OFF when charging. You defeat the purpose of charging your bluetooth while it's on.
