Just had my 960 a few days. Am very disappointed. It hardly seems to pick up one dog hair from tightly wove carpet.

I hope you examined your 960 for anything which might have jammed the brush or rollers. This unit on my first run got into all sorts of trouble and I needed to rescue it each time and I learnt what not to leave on the floor

You are saying there are no brushes? The 960 should have a tri-wing brush that mounts to one side on the bottom. Was this an open box? I found this to do a great job on pet hair with the brush installed.
