The 980 is the top model and it is great! It picks up hair from animals and if it's really dirty in one spot it goes back and fourth over it until it's clean. Some of the lower models don't have the no tangle rollers which are important for us pet owners. We are really happy with ours.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 980 has the latest generation of motor. It will increase suction when on a rug. It also runs longer between charges. The others have Gen 2 motors and all work similarly to each other with the difference being pretty much battery life. Having previously owned a 960, the extended battery life AND SHORTER RECHARGE DURATION along with the increased suction of the 980 are significant.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I recently went for the Roomba 980. When making your decision, you might check to see if a model has some of the features that for me personally made the 980 worth the extra money. My understanding is that its newer lithium battery holds a charge longer than earlier models. You might also compare the ribbed rubber debris extractors on the 980 to models that may have bristled rollers instead. I find the ribbed rubber rollers work well and do not get hair wrapped around them. Also, it was important to me that the unit has two speeds of operation, one for smooth hard surfaces and a higher gear for rugs and carpets. I don't recall if that was unique to the 980, but it might be a comparison point when you look at the different models. I hope these observations are a little helpful.
